Hey there

Taekwondo Articles

I'm always reading Taekwondo Articles

Not only do I search the internet looking for interesting articles about the martial art I love and practice, but I have been known to write on the subject myself, (as you can see from my website).

As I was hunting around to read the thoughts and research of other taekwondo enthusiasts, it occurred to me that I'm clearly not the only one that enjoys writing about taekwon-do. But not everyone has a clear outlet to publish their writing.

So with that revelation came an idea. Why don't I offer to publish articles written by other taekwondo practitioners who want to share their wealth with the rest of us.

Pretty simple concept right? And completely within my ability to provide given I own and manage The Taekwondo Network.

So if you are itching to get your words down on paper, sharing your insights and knowledge passed down to you from your Masters, I would love to publish these articles for you.

Now there are a couple of ways we can do this. You can email me your taekwondo articles to TKDtimes@taekwondo-network.com and I will publish them either on the website itself or the blog attached to the site depending on where they best fit the existing structure of The Taekwondo Network.

Inserting the text of your article within the email body is better than attaching a file. Sometimes attached file emails get booted by spam filters.

You will certainly get a byline as the author of your article. And, if you have a website or school website that you would like your article to link to let me know that as well. This will give your website or school's website additional exposure which is actually just free advertising. I'm happy to help bring more taekwondo schools to the notice of the general public because I want more people to discover the benefits of tae kwon do.

And if you don't have any kind of internet presence, that's okay too. I would be happy to show your byline and an "About the Author" bio too. Then viola! You are a published author.

So many of you write essays to attain the different ranks within your school's advancement structure. I think those essays are important, and should be shared. That's why I want to publish your taekwondo articles.

I'm excited about the possibilities of this project. Think about all the wisdom and insight we can gain from sharing our thoughts about taekwon-do.

Post Your Taekwondo Tournaments

Don't forget the new Taekwondo Tournaments page.

Several of you submitted upcoming tournaments that are now listed in that section of the website. I apologize to those of you who submitted tournaments that I didn't get up in time. A couple of weeks notice at least would be appreciated.

Good luck to everyone who has been competing this spring. TKD Tournaments are a great way to improve your tae kwon do techniques.

Words We Use: Breathing Techniques

A great friend of mine, Master Linthorst, published a column at our school called "Words We Use". I thought you might enjoy learning from her as I have.

Words have power - the power to motivate, encourage, and energize. In many disciplines, people use phrases they repeat many times to get themselves "psyched", "in the spirit", prepared for the tasks at hand. Try these out!

Bo pup or Bo bub is the method by which we bring energy into our bodies. We do this by inhaling through our noses.

Sa pup or Sa bub is exhalation. Again, we do this through our noses.

Each time you practice TaeKwonDo, recite these phrases internally to improve your techniques.

Oh, and did you see Master Linthorst's latest article in TKD Times Magazine? Check out her interview with Senior Master Anto Nobilo, ITF eighth-dan of Zagreb, Croatia! This interview was conducted recently during one of her many travels abroad.

Your Feedback

I am so grateful to Chief Master Eisenhart for catching this error on my site. Please never hesitate to notify me of mistakes you find on The Taekwondo Network. I want my information to as accurate as possible. Though some topics I cover have debatable substance, terminology is concrete. Any errors of concrete information need to be corrected right away.

Chief Master Darwin Eisenhart wrote: In your terms on titles:

Great Grandmaster Sa jo nim

Grandmaster Kwan jang nim

Master Sun bae nim

Instructor Kyo sa nim

Senior Sun bae nim

Junior Who bae nim"

Master is incorrectly listed as sunbaenim. It should be Sabeomnim (although other spelling variations are used such as "sabom," "sabum," "sahbuhm," etc., ) "Sa beom" is the more accurate Romanization of the Korean Hangul.

Also, it is better to provide separate pronunciation guides in parenthesis, such as "junior = Hubaenim (who bae nim)," rather than teach inaccurate translation of the Korean terms.

Just offering suggestions.

My response:

I can't believe you are the first person to ever catch that spelling mistake. You are clearly correct and I have fixed the error on my page. Our school tends to spell it sa bum nim. I hope that I have not lead too many novices astray with that mistake.

Thanks Master Eisenhart!

I love it when we share information and opinions like Courtney. So I have created an area on Taekwondo-Network where you can share your questions or comments with all visitors. Please visit Your Feedback and leave your story for everyone to comment and learn from.

Nominate Your Master

Many of you have requested the guidelines for creating a page on the site about your master. I would really like to ad pages dedicated to all the great Masters out there. Send me an essay about your Master so I can begin a library. Let's work together to give them the recognition they deserve. Just 300-400 words would be great. Don't let the word "essay" scare you!

Tae kwon do Master

Soon, I will create an invitation page where you can write about your Master directly online for more immediate publishing.
